Purpose:

The purpose of this report is to provide Area Panel members with an update on the Waste Amnesty Pilot, outline proposals for a wider waste management, and seek comments and feedback from residents and panel members before future arrangements are developed and implemented.

Main body of the report:

The Waste Amnesty Pilot is now halfway through and has received very positive feedback from residents. A full consultation with residents in the pilot areas will take place later this year.

So far, the pilot has collected over 4.5 tonnes of waste, including 7 fridge-freezers, 13 sofas and armchairs, 7 televisions and 12 mattresses, helping to create cleaner, safer and more welcoming estates.

The pilot has also supported sustainability through the donation of reusable items, including two armchairs and several duvets and bedding sets, which will be redistributed for community use.

Due to an unexpected vehicle breakdown, the July and August Waste Amnesty events could not take place. The remaining four events have now been rescheduled for September and October.

Building on the pilot's success, the Estates Service Team is exploring a wider Waste Management Programme. Any future arrangements will be informed by pilot outcomes, resident feedback and available budgets.

Proposals being considered include:

· Regular Waste Amnesty events

· Increasing capacity to remove graffiti

· Scheduled jet washing of bins and bin areas

· An enhanced bulky waste collection service delivered in partnership with Environmental Services, using the same pricing structure and terms and conditions to provide a consistent One Council approach.

Conclusion The Waste Amnesty Pilot has delivered encouraging results, with strong resident engagement and positive improvements to estate cleanliness and safety. The proposed Waste Management Programme aims to build on this success through a range of practical initiatives that support cleaner, safer and more sustainable neighbourhoods.

We welcome feedback and suggestions from Area Panel members and residents as these proposals continue to be developed.
